Brantwood

The former home of John Ruskin, a historic house, museum and vibrant centre for the arts.

Brantwood, John Ruskin, Coniston

Brantwood offers a fascinating insight into the world of John Ruskin and the last 28 years of his life spent in the Lakes. Filled with many fine paintings, beautiful furniture and Ruskin’s personal treasures, the house retains the character of its famous resident.

A historic house, museum and vibrant centre for the arts, Ruskin’s former home has a wealth of things to see and do for the whole family.

Brantwood is owned by a private trust and is open to the public for a fee. Inside the house there are superb drawings and watercolours by John Ruskin and also a video about his life. Throughout the season there are a number of exhibitions and events. There is a Craft Gallery which sells the work of local artists, and there is also an excellent restaurant that provides the ideal setting for a light meal. The gardens are worth a visit in their own right.

Exclusively we sell discounted tickets on behalf on Brantwood for entry to the house and gardens. These are available online and onboard. If you buy your Brantwood ticket on the boat or on our website, please report to the ticket office in the car park on arrival.
